Observation details
found by Richard Gin earlier today. light brown head and neck, orange-pinkish bill color, bold horizontal belly bar, and bold white tipped tail (seen in flight) point to western ssp. heard vocalizing repeatedly but quietly, an even toned, chuckle like “hunh-hunh-hunh-hunh” (audio tba). at one point one of the mute swans began bullying it a bit and chased it slightly away from the canada geese it was with. i noticed this bird repeatedly shaking its head constantly during my entire >1hour observation, when it swam close it also appeared to be closing its eyes for extended periods between head shakes. not sure what any of this means for the health of the bird but thought it would be worth mentioning here.
