Observation details
It is possible the bright artifical lights coming from the building can have an effect on how late this particular owl leaves its roost. While most of the screech owls I have observed tend to leave the roost once the ambient light has dropped below a certain level, on occasion I have seen a screech owl or two stay in the roost even when it is already dark. It's the exception rather than the rule for this species. In the case of this owl and its roost location, it never really gets dark or dark enough which may explain its behaviour of leaving the roost, one and a half hours after sunset.
