Observation details
Seen standing in a distant tall tree. It cocked its head in a few directions then flew off. Dark backside and light underside. Appears to have some tan around upper chest, upper wings, and near the tail. Wings have many narrow dark stripes throughout the light underside. Front and back of tail has dark banding. Due to lighting and distance, could not see details of backside that would determine age. An immature Cooper's Hawk was seen in the area in May, but it is unclear if this is the same individual or if it's feathers changed in this span of time. A Cooper's Hawk was seen recently that was ID'd by sound and confirmed by Merlin app. Comparing images, this hawk appears to have an identical banding pattern on the confirmed Cooper's Hawk's tail, so this is assumed to be the same individual.
