Observation details
First heard making pip pip pip pip call from 34.17740, -117.99104. Then it popped into view across the stream from us at 34.17778, -117.99137. Contopus flycatcher with long bill with yellow-orange underside. Lanky shape overall. No contrasting dusky wash on breast. Weak wingbars. Photos (kinda distant from across the stream) and audio recordings. There were hikers on the opposite side of the stream walking under the bird, so we went over there, but by then it had quieted down and we could not refind it. This is probably the same bird that was photographed on November 27th and identified as a Western Wood-Pewee. John Garrett noticed the photos on eBird and prompted us to check out the area.
