Observation details
*rare and irregular fall migrant with a narrow expected window of occurrence involving southbound juveniles around this time; generally an upland species but seemingly fond of barrier islands as well. Long-staying bird frequenting the wrackline near the second easternmost jetty; not present when we arrived but Austin called it out in flight by call as it came rocketing in from the west, evidently putting down on the jetty among semipalmated sandpipers as Michael picked it out in the scope shortly after. After a while it came down onto the beach and foraged within feet of us for an extended period until we left it to its business. (Too many) photos
