Observation details

Note the gray and tan plumage without the spotting seen on the Mourning Dove. The black collar is obvious with a plain gray head. The folded tail is squared off and the under tail is white. In flight the tail is broad and rounded (the tail of the Mourning Dove is tapered to a point). Note that the tail projects way beyond the primary wing tips, and the black of the primary wing feathers can be seen on either side of the tail.
