Observation details
Continuing in general area as found by Jeff Boyd. Observed while standing on the greenbelt trail in between the bench up on the path and deforest ave. Initially heard agitated calls (about 5-10 seconds) as a common yellowthroat went on a rampage through the greenbelt area. Very brief view of the ovenbird from the backside, simply noticing a cocked tail with a white underside. Grigory showed up and we continued to scan the greenbelt and toyon on the path side of the fence. A beautiful and healthy looking coyote appeared and quickly flushed a couple of birds including the ovenbird, which flew into a toyon bush and perched. It moved and appeared more like a thrush or sparrow rather than a warbler. It didn’t forage, rather it kind of moved and looked around, hopping along branches with a Lincoln sparrow. It appeared the birds were alarmed by the coyote and possibly looking for safety, which allowed for great views. The ovenbird was olive-brownish on top and white underneath with dark streaking. The central crown was orange and bordered by two dark stripes, complete white ring around eyes and a plain white throat.
