Observation details
Update: I went through all my media again and while I'm fairly sure this is a COLO, there are some fairly convincing views that make it look like a PALO, even showing what appears to be a chinstrap. I believe these are more likely artifacts of the distant digiscoping video and a good reminder that distant loons can be deceiving. One of the videos shows an apparent long bill for a moment as the loon turns it's head. In my experience bill size of loons tend to appear much smaller at great distance due to some optical distortion. All attached media is of the same bird. Loch Ness Loons. Spent most of my time studying this bird with the prospect that it could be a Pacific Loon. Ultimately, I left undecided when I ran out of both time and light. Bill appeared short and held at a slightly upward angle (although not as much as RTLO bill structure). Appearance of an occasional "neck collar" is the primary reason I couldn't settle on PALO. Some views I was fairly confident it was PALO and other views with different lighting made me believe it was actually a COLO. Will review all my digiscope video to see if anything is identifiable.
