Observation details
**RARE** Vagrant hummingbird continuing at the residence of Jerry & Joyce Ignatz. Initially IDed and reported by Hans Kunze who subsequently followed up with Alec Humann and Sue Barth who confirmed on their observations. Gorgeous Selaphorous, female/immature type overall metallic green backed through crown with white spot behind eye. Considerable rufous wash along flanks/chest and underwing coverts. Dark spotting of gorget feathers limited under pale throat. In flight photos show mostly white tipped outer tail retrices and rufous ventral markings. This hearty bird actively made multiple trips to feeder for extended views for Jerry and I, in my hour and half visit. Big Shout Out to Hans Kunze and Alec & Sue for getting the word out of this splendid rare visitor.State Bird !! Hoorah!! Hopefully it will sustain through these upcoming sub-freezing temps. Finally, to surmise. It's not always the Rare bird you are privileged to observe, but the unforgettable memories you make with the people you meet along the journey. Thank You so much Jerry & Joyce for your welcoming hospitality, and to you Jerry. You have inspired me to be a better person. Amen. Photos TBA
