Observation details
continuing since 30 Nov; Archilochus (small, slender, relatively slender neck and small head; inner primaries much narrower than outers); with greenish back; paler, grayish crown and auriculars; black loral and small white postocular spots; white chin; throat with fanned series of columns of dark spots (darkest and densest at center, paler toward sides, and only faint beneath the eyes and loral spot); at least a couple of purplish gorget feathers towards near the bottom of the throat; grayish breast and belly with flanks slightly darker; light brownish primaries, falling slightly short of tip of tail; outer primaries with broad tips; relatively long, slightly decurved, black bill; feeding from reddish salvia when I arrived; then visited purple salvia before hawking insects around the crown of holly tree; flew off to W/SW at 1238; returned 1309; foraged from and perched in purple salvia, with a couple of short visits to red salvia; then hawked insects around crown of holly tree before spending a few min perched in the holly facing the sun; departed ~1330;
