Observation details
Heard it first, very briefly and faintly, making its nasal horn-like sounds. I then spotted it, upside down, on a tree trunk near the river, along with a Black-and-white-Warbler. The nuthatch had a white line above the eye, a black line through the eye, and a soft rusty-colored breast and underside. The back was grayish. It was moving very fast. I got a couple of terrible/ blurry photos before it took off.
