Observation details
Right after I arrived, the male and female flew in and disappeared into the largest bottlebrush in front of Sea View apartments on Hawthorne (between Dickman and Reeside). Kai Russell arrived soon after and eventually got glimpses of both birds in the bottlebrush (I did not). After he left, the male popped up onto the telephone cable and sat for a minute or two, then flew to the top of the ornamental cherry tree at the corner of Dickman and Hawthorne. In a number of visits to this location I've never seen the male out in the open for this long. His face was dusted with yellow pollen, presumably from feeding on bottlebrush flowers.
