Observation details

A surprise sighting. I was on my knees in the laterite grass area to photograph a perched sparrowhawk when something moved in front of me. At first it looked like a lark, but its size made me ready to click. The Quail appeared for a few seconds to drink from the small pallam on the laterite. When a raptor passed overhead, it quickly slipped back into the yellow grasses, very well camouflaged. I couldn’t find the bird again after that. Perfect habitat for quails, though some cage escapees may also occur.
