Observation details
Initially, I thought I heard the distinctive rattle call note of this species, but could not be sure. Several seconds later, the rattle call note was repeated and searching the sky to the southwest, six high-flying cranes were observed and photographed out over the bay. For some reason, they paused their direct southwesterly flight and flew a complete tight circle around out over the bay (2nd and 3rd photos), but then they continued flying in a southwest direction, eventually disappearing over the Bunganuc treeline. Distant photos.
