Observation details
This brightly colored male bird was seen at the top of a large tree as you enter the parking lot at the Farm Store at Kellogg Ranch. I took a few photos before the bird flew across the road to where they had the Pumpkin Patch Festival. The school grew several rows of common sunflowers. I always thought that the flower petals were yellow, but some of the flowers were bright orange same as the pumpkins. Anyways, this bird loves perching at the top of the sunflower stalks. It doesn't eat the seeds, it just likes using them as a staging area to catch insects. I hope that the school keeps the sunflowers for awhile longer. This species continues to push further north and my hope is that this male will find a mate and breed at this location.
