Observation details
Seen soon after finding the Tennessee Warbler. Skulky at times hiding in the willows but would suddenly perch high in the willows and fly catch Yellow Jackets, especially when the sun was out. Less visible and active as it became more overcast. Seen for a hour. Bulky short tailed tanager. Large headed, and steep crowned. Bill large pale with slight darker upper mandible. Warm okra / yellow / red with red and yellow in wing bars and red tail, , red rump and orange undertail. The warm colors, lack of dark wing bars or pale wing bars and the large bill eliminated both Western Tanager and Scarlet Tanager. I believe this tanager is a male, but still researching, Photos.
