Observation details
Most likely an American Herring Gull, but it was just a little too "frosty" to my eye. Vagrant fever led me to consider Vega or European Herring as a remote possibility. Unfortunately no flight shots. One photo shows a little patch of the upper tail coverts or tail base, and I think it has too much dark mottling to be OK for Vega. There are three or four feathers that may qualify as "barred replaced scapulars" consistent with Vega, and the undertail coverts are pale with at least one bar , but all this is beyond my pay grade.
