Observation details

Counting method: The roost naturally divided into 4 groups. (see panorama photo of all 4 groups). For sufficient resolution each group was photographed 3 times at 5:38, 5:45, and 5:50 PM, respectively. Only the 4 images from the last series at 5:50 PM are included here. For the 3 series, the count totals were 253, 302, and 346. Nine more egrets arrived toward dark after the third count bringing the visible roost size to 355. This may be a small underestimate as in the images some birds appeared as gray dots hidden in the foliage. The same census yesterday but with less clear photos totaled 319 Cattle Egrets.
