Observation details
7 days after my initial search for Ammos in SAIA 7A, I returned to try a wet tangle that looked too good for Henslow's to resist. I was shocked to not find any in here last week after discovering several GRSP and LESP. The habitat in this retired machine gun range is the best I've ever seen for rare grassland sparrows - I figured with the little bit of moisture and cold front we got this weekend, maybe they had arrived. Sure enough, I immediately flushed 2-3 HESPs. The only spot I've ever seen all three species co-occuring. They have not shot guns here in approx 6 yrs, and the field is burned annually. We will start waiting to burn this field until the spring from now on to allow these rare sparrows to thrive.
