Observation details
Golden plover on tiny “island” north of large island #17. With 8 killdeer also on island. Observed from both the south and north side of pond. Much smaller than a BBPL (close to killdeer in size), with a slender appearance and relatively long neck and legs. Gold-edged feathers and gold spots on back. Golden face and head, dark spots behind eyes, and a pale supercilium. Was on island for at least ~1.25 hours (from 11:15 to 12:30). We saw it resting, foraging, preening, and calling during that time. Melanie took her digiscoped photos through Melissa's scope. At its peak, it was calling once every 20 seconds or so (each sound file is just one call, with background noise)
