Observation details

Cardinal-sized bird. Male with large beak, yellow supercilium, black on head and neck, bright yellow belly and underparts, black primaries, white secondaries. Surprised to only see one. First noticed perched in a deciduous tree. After a bit it started actively foraging in a different deciduous tree, then it came to the ground below a sunflower seed feeder and foraged for a few minutes, then flew off. Extremely poor iPhone 13 photo taken, also recording of its call.

Additional species

  • White-breasted Nuthatch Sitta carolinensis
  • Pine Grosbeak Pinicola enucleator
  • Black-capped Chickadee Poecile atricapillus
