Observation details
**very rare to DuPage County, only the 3rd ever record? Selasphorus hummingbird, vibrant green back, greenish head, white belly with orangish smudges on the sides, somewhat of a gorget (young male) and notched r2, ruling out ALHU. THE FOLLOWING IS COPIED FROM MY RARE BIRD ALERT ON DISCORD: A Rufous Hummingbird has been visiting a private yard in Naperville for the past month (but we only learned about it on Wednesday evening). Nathan Goldberg and I have been in contact with the homeowner, and I was able to swing by this morning to confirm the ID. Bill (the homeowner) is welcoming visitors starting tomorrow morning (11/29). Please park on the street, enter the yard through the gate on the East side of the house, and view the feeder from a respectable distance. The address is 1105 Cheshire Ave, Naperville, Illinois ***PLEASE do not for any reason ring the doorbell and make sure the gate is securely closed as you enter/exit the yard. The yard will be open from 8am-12:30pm each day until further notice or the bird leaves. Please respect the homeowner's wishes.*** I spent several hours with the bird this morning and once it entered the yard at 8:30ish, it never left the vicinity, spending the majority of its time sunbathing and preening in the neighbor's bush (see pic).
