Observation details
Observed a Black-headed Gull in crisp nonbreeding plumage. The bird showed the classic suite of field marks: bright red legs, a thicker red bill with a slightly drooping profile, and the prominent dark ear patch contrasting against an otherwise clean white head. Structure was fuller and less delicate than Bonaparte’s, with longer legs and a more robust bill-to-head proportion. Upperparts appeared pale gray with bold black in the primaries and white edging visible when the wings shifted. The bird held close to the rocks among Ring-billed , offering prolonged scope views and allowing for confirmation of all supporting features. I was able to obtain clear digiscoped images documenting the ID.
