Observation details
This is a continuing bird; observed earlier in the morning at South Pier. I decided to add an additional entry when I visited PI. At first observance the pelican was by itself; away from the shielding dense flock of Ring-bills (and others). I observed for ~15 minutes with very little movement that I could see through my binoculars and camera. Was concerned this bird is distressed and waited to see movement. Looking at postings, I think Doug Massey (at respectful distance from Pelican) was on South Pier when I was observing. The pelican did take flight and landed again amongst the dense flock of gulls. Perhaps it took a nap and his pier-mates had moved on. I hope this pelican is not too distressed by this cold weather and gets to warmer climates soon. Appreciate the mention in your report Doug!
