foraging adult and immature Snow Geese
Observation details
I spotted two white geese as I drove north on South Bay Blvd and stopped at the trail parking area to scope the birds which turned out to be an adult and hatch year Snow Geese. They spent most of the time in view grazing on estuary vegetation but occasionally lifted their heads to look around. The adult was all white and appeared slightly smaller than the immature bird. The brief views I got of the bill showed a black gape on a pinkish bill. The extensive gray plumage on the young bird fit Snow and not Ross's Goose. It had an all black bill. Both birds had black primaries.
