Observation details
I had quite an interaction with this bird. I used playback to detect it yesterday. Today, without stimulus of any kind, it came flying out of its favorite cone-laden juniper straight at my face to the point I ducked. It continued to fly to various points around me without any wing flicking or agonistic vocalizations as I have witnessed when solitaires scuffle with another solitaire. I was finishing a lemonade and, with all due respect for the deceased, poured a small amount into a depression on the top of a headstone. I stepped back and the bird immediately came over to drink (see photo). In thinking about this encounter, my interpretation is the bird recognized my big floppy hat from yesterday and regarded me as a "person of interest" but not as a rival.
