Observation details
County mega found by Maureen Tulip. Pics. Got roughly 10 minutes to view the bird before it flew off to the N. Miserable windy conditions. County bird #261. 1st winter type. Partial grayish-black hood contrasting with prominent white eye-arcs. The chin, crown, and forehead were whitish. The rear neck had a grayish wash (vs. brown) and the bird had a white breast which rules out a similarly-aged laughing gull. The fresh mantle feathers were darker gray than any of the other gulls (RBGU and BOGU) and stood out. The other feather groups above (secondaries and wing coverts) had a gray-brown coloration though the tertials had a contrasting white edge. The folded primaries were blackish with white tips. The bill was black and relatively thin.
