Observation details
Bird lept from tree cavity at about 5:20pm. Landed on low, small Celtis Occidentalis about 7' from trail. Bird stayed on this branch for 6+ minutes, where I observed him spitting a relatively large pellet, hunting once (unsure of success), and landing back on the same branch. Maybe 2 minutes later, the bird flew off to several other trees throughout the forest, I could not see him on any, but could hear him do his distinct trill. Finally, as I was leaving the park, I almost walked into him - without me realizing, he flew to a very small tree basically growing on the trail, he ignored me because he was locked on to prey. He successfully caught the prey, which was maybe 6 or so feet in from of me, flew to a close by fallen log, ate the prey, and flew off. I left after this.
