Observation details
Compact, contrasty black-and-white grebes swimming and diving on the NJ side of the river. Neat black caps and black napes contrasting sharply with white lower face and neck, ruling out Eared Grebe. Short necks and bills and small body size ruling out Aechmophorus spp. Birds swimming north upriver in pairs, with two pairs ultimately converging, putting four birds in one scope view, and another pair trailing behind to the south.
