Media notes

Vocalizations by the Sharp-shinned Hawk at 20.0 seconds into the recording.

Observation details

Unsuccessful predation. Juvenile seen repeatedly diving on the grackles up to 6 times without a strike? Grackles did not flush but continued to walk around on the ground. It appeared that the hawk was practicing. We recorded sounds made by the Sharp-shinned Hawk but not identified by Merlin. See attached recording at 20 seconds in, past the sounds made by the grackles, for this hawk's vocalization.

Additional species

  • Great-tailed Grackle Quiscalus mexicanus
