Observation details
Separated from the Water Pipits based on the following criteria : - 1. Heavy, dark streaked chest and flanks (compared to winter plumage of A.s.blakistoni, which shows almost unstreaked flanks, streaks if present are faint and brownish) 2. Streaks are darker (blacker) vs the brownish and faint streaking of Water Pipit (A.s.blakistoni) in Winter plumage 3. Well defined lateral marks and moustachial stripes 4. Upperparts greyer and more uniform, with relatively indistinct streaking. 5. Relatively paler legs on one individual, other had darker legs. 6. Unmarked lores, poorly defined eyestripe behind the eye (compared to Water Pipit, which may show a smudge of eye stripe behind the eye) Reference : Alstrom and Mild in Pipits and Wagtails of Europe, Asia and North America
