Observation details

True to their name, they are quite bohemian. They just flew in and feasted on the berries before leaving within 5-6 minutes. Preferred to eat the conifer berries more than the red berries the Pine Grosbeaks were feeding on. Huge flock, 50 is probably an underestimate. Starling-sized waxwings; in fact, when we first saw the flock fly in, we thought they might be Starlings. But we quickly recognized those distinctive Bohemian Waxwing calls, and we were greeted to several moments of pure Bohemian Waxwing bliss afterwards.

Additional species

  • Pine Grosbeak Pinicola enucleator
