Observation details
piercing electric-sounding calls descending in pitch heard only. have bad audio of one. took me a minute for this species to come to mind as a possibility but I reckon nothing else would fit. regular migrant to the Tuamotus, and as far as I understand some birds (young ones) oversummer in nonbreeding range, so even if uncommon/rare in this context it shouldn’t be entirely surprising. I see at least one other November eBird record for Tuamotu-Gambier. heard it call a couple more times (got another audio) including the more commonly recorded ascending call (song?) which I hadn’t heard in life before, then saw the fairly large, very long-tailed, brownish and heavily patterned bird flying at canopy height
