This photo is deceiving. The bright direct sunlight is making it look darker than it really appears in the photo. Earlier, in better light when it was somewhat east of here it appeared just barely darker than the RBGUs.
Observation details
Size of nearby Juvenile Herring Gulls and much larger than Ring-billed Gulls. Adult. Medium gray mantle/upper parts, too dark for Herring Gull and too light for Lesser Black-backed Gull. Leg color was pink, no streaking on head or neck that I could see, but the eye may have had a dark streak through it. Red gony spot on bill visible. Suspected hybrid. Maybe Herring/Lesser Black-backed Gull hybrid(?) Distance and poor lighting made it difficult to photograph, but photos attached.
