Observation details
Adult male. I have been checking this particular tree since last summer. I knew it, this would be the perfect tree for it! It was actually a foot away from my face when I was checking the tree, didn't see it. Went around, saw some white wash (poop), my heart started racing. And I peered inside, I froze, my heart stopped, the red squirrels went crazy. Eyes wide-open, it was staring right through me holding its prey item. It flew off then went back to the tree. It is so tiny, I think american robins are bigger than it, looks like the size of a fat junco. Whole encounter was around 10 min. People may report there's this weird guy in all smiles looking inside a tree, so I left. 🤪 **I didn't mean to flush it out, I didn't know it was in that tree, didn't even see it at first. No crows, magpies or any hawks around. The red squirrels were faraway and stopped after two minutes. It went back to its roosting tree after two minutes of being flushed out and stayed there when I left.
