Observation details
See photo, taken at around 250 yards, in poor light. Males are black with slightly iridescent head, even visible in low light. Females are the same size, but with coloration similar to a female cowbird. Males have a distinct white eye and females do not. I’ve been watching these birds appear on top of the trees in a distant fence row, each evening, since last weekend. This evening, I crossed the field to get a closer look. There are a few starlings, cowbirds, and grackles in the photo, but the majority are Brewer’s. 65 is a conservative count; there were at least that many on the ground beyond the fence row that I was unable to see clearly.
