Observation details
Kudos to Austin Johnson for finding the bird earlier and to Eleanor Ray for refinding it for the seven of us who were looking for it in the late afternoon. The bird was feeding in an open, grassy area, disappearing under the dead grass for long periods before appearing in an open spot. Able to see its broad orange eyebrow and its white central crown stripe, the latter field mark distinguishing it from Nelson's and Saltmarsh Sparrows. Appeared to be a juvenile based on the presence of broad white stripes on its back. It crept closer to us as it got darker, as close as 3-4 feet, completely oblivious to the excitement it was causing in us lucky seven.
