Observation details
Seen on the east spit of Rice Island at mid-tide with Dunlins, Least Sandpipers, and Black-bellied Plovers. Smaller than Black-bellied Plovers, with which it was seen side by side. More upright posture than Black-Bellied. Yellower overall than typical juvenile American Golden-Plover. Distinct rounded ear spot. No distinct supercilium as in American Golden-Plover. Primary projection not discernible from the back of the bird (the only view we had until the whole flock took off), but tertials long as in Pacific Golden-Plover. Spots visible on nape. Photos.
