Observation details
Early on in 2025 I noticed a Red-shouldered Hawk pair on and around the nest. I assumed it was the same pair that used the nest last year (not sure if that nest was successful or not). That pair disappeared and for a few months there was no activity. But I was surprised to find, in early April, the pair of resident Lafayette Reservoir Bald Eagles starting to add mostly large sticks onto this nest to try to make it larger, though the nest still looked smaller than a normal Bald Eagle nest. This, of course, was way too late in the season for the pair to begin nesting and the nest ultimately failed. I didn't check up on the nest enough to figure out at what stage the nest failed at. Eggs were possibly laid but food was never seen brought to the nest for young chicks.
