Observation details
Continuing. Found by Brainard Palmer-Ball earlier in the day. I wound up kayaking over to the fossil beds to get some good photos. The closer observation allowed me to get some good looks at this individual including direct comparisons to multiple 1st cycle American Herring Gulls. This bird was smaller, had a more rounded head, a subtly smaller bill, and a somewhat larger-eyed appearance than the AHGU. In good light, the primaries were distinctly brown, not black, and all flight and tail feathers had a pale edge. There was an obvious pale window on the upperside of the inner primaries, with the outer primaries having a dark outer edge but pale to translucent inner edge. The undersides of the flight feathers were very pale aside from slightly dark tips on the first few primaries.
