Observation details
There were a few Black Scoters out in the bay where they are usually mixing in with Surf Scoters. One was sitting on the beach (see photos) which is suspicious to me, because I have never seen one of them come on the beach here. I took advantage and took some photos. A jogger came by and the bird flew off to the water. It struggled with the waves and the strong wind. I observed it for a while. Ultimately it did not get out into the bay where its buddies were but was drifted along the coast direction Cliffwood Beach. Only at home when looking at the photos I saw that there seems to be something tied up to the wing of the bird. I hope it can get rid of whatever it is and re-unite with its buddies.
