Observation details

Admittedly, a rough estimate, as birds were moving up and down the beach around us, but we regularly had 7 to 10 right in front of us, and given the ratio of curlews to godwits to whimbrel in the various groups we encountered, plus the overall number of large shorebirds we could see up and down the beach as we moved along, it seems like a reasonable number. Watched one curlew closely following a whimbrel, who managed to outmaneuver it and hang onto its prey.
