Observation details

Doc shots and audio TBA. Heard call and got brief looks at a male perched in the open. Lighting was not great, but muted red plumage apparent. The male moved before I could photograph him, but I eventually spotted a female and managed some doc shots that show dull yellow plumage and crossed bill. A flock of 10 or so finches flew over that I think were likely more crossbills, but I can't say definitively. These birds came and left in under a minute, but I did hear additional calls when I passed near the area again.

Additional species

  • Northern Cardinal Cardinalis cardinalis
  • Dark-eyed Junco Junco hyemalis
