Observation details
Was expecting some Evening Grosbeaks locally during this season’s irruption flight but I was not expecting this…simply awesome. Westbound flocks of 20, 22, 16, and 21, with the flock of 22 close overhead, heard well, and listed on this checklist as type 3s (other 3 flocks were well outside audible range and make up this total). Thought flock of 20 was 19 birds while chimping photos for a number in the field but I missed one bird. Large, chunky finches flashing white wing patches: females sporting thin primary patches, males with white secondaries, a few bright yellow birds; bad photos of the flock of 20
