Observation details
*Rare and a good count (looks like a high count for Queens, at least on eBird), but expected under these conditions: winds from the southwest bringing CASW up to the Great Lakes, followed by strong west/northwest winds that concentrate the birds along the coast. All westbound: pure group of 4 at 10:32, 2 with TRES at 11:22, and a pure group of 8 at 12:48. All moving without stopping, though the last group ducked under the elevated train line a couple times as though contemplating roosting. Small, compact, relatively short-winged, and fluttery swallows with brick-orange throats, rumps, and foreheads; also had orangish washes on the underparts. Photos of at least a few.
