Observation details
Very large light gray birds, erect upright posture, long necks, and with red on the face of a couple. the birds were large in comparison to nearby B.c. moffitti Canada Geese. First spotted by Deborah Attaway who alerted Geoff Heinecken/Cheryl Watson. I arrived about 2:30 and the birds were on the ground walking west in the ripped-out vineyard open field where fieldworkers were actively burning old vine brush piles. The birds disappeared after my initial 60-second observation … before I could obtain photos. I returned, after driving around towards Cunnigham Road and Gielow Lane looking for the birds checking all fallow fields. Upon return to Old River Road Chuck and Barbara Vaughn were parked near the Fern Canyon pond looking for the birds. As I approached C&B, at that moment, the four birds returned in flight and circled the field then flew north. Photos are posted below.
