Observation details
First winter foraging with small flock of golden-crowned sparrows along the easternmost trail -- the out-and-back peninsula. Obviously brighter, warmer toned than flockmates, as well as rounder, seeming slightly bigger. Bright, pinky beak, white throat and breast, with faint malar moustaches coming in and a messy central chest dot bordered by warm brown streaks. Warm brown head with grumpy concentration of black just above the bill but not around the eye. This individual doesn't seem entirely hale, as it was consistently clumsy landing and moving and was more reticent than its flockmates in coming off a perch to forage.
