Observation details
Previously found here. Apparent second winter drake (based upon minimally-formed orange bill knob and some dark feathers showing in white wing stripe). May still be growing feathers since the bird spent a lot of time picking at feathers and preening on water and on shore. Initially seen loafing with several Common Eiders in the lee on north end of island. Eventually moved into the channel between the island and mainland. Specialized tertial "sails" visible as little shark fin shaped projections on the back. My first time seeing those bright orange legs! Photos
