Observation details
A hatch-year male, which was banded in the yard in late July continues in the yard. Also, there are now two females present as well. Ealier in the fall, Todd Eskelin (USFWS) banded two hatch-year males and a female in our yard. There is also an adult male a few blocks away at the top of Glacierview. The homeowner there reports that at least three hummingbirds are coming to his feeder. With the three banded birds, the second female, and an adult male, that makes a minimum of five Anna's Hummingbirds that have occurred in the Portlock/Fernwood neighborhood this fall, with at least four of them still present. The photos here are of the two females, who are adversarial around the feeder. In the photo of the two birds squabbling at the feeder, a band is visible on the right leg of the right bird. The other bird appears to be unbanded.
