Observation details

Found yesterday by Sarah Peden and still at roughly the same spot on the southwest side of the northeastern most pond in the park near the ramp to the boardwalk. Nice adult that perched up in some low willows a couple of times, but stayed mostly hidden otherwise. Smaller than Song, and similar in size and shape to Lincoln’s. Bright rusty cap, gray face and chest highlighting a white throat. Strong malar stripe and bold eye stripe behind eye. Indistinct smudgy streaks on chest. Flanks buffy. Bright rufous wing coverts and edges to secondaries; no wing bars. Back brown with bold black streaks. Bill had dark culmen, paler on mandible. Pink legs and feet. Call a hard “cheep” (recorded).
